Hello! I have a cute quick little freebie for you today to share some love!
I had intended this for a project and it didn’t fit in the way I had hoped… So, I decided to turn my frown upside down and offer it to you all for free!
Check out this cute HEART APPLIQUE! It is a granny square style with a little love on top!
Use it on blankets, make it in thread and make a necklace or earrings, stitch it on a a shirt or purse, really anywhere!!
This example used an H (5.0mm) crochet hook and worsted weight yarn, specifically Red Heart with Love.
The heart as made measures about 5″ at the widest point and about 4″ tall.
By altering hook size and/or yarn size it could be just about any size…thread for baby lovin’ and bulky yarn for big lovin’ 🙂
Make magic circle: (DO NOT turn rounds, mark the 1st st of the round to keep track as needed), if you see stitches listed as “x/x/x” you will skip all those sts before moving to the next instruction.
Rnd 1: ch 2 (counts as dc here and throughout the heart), 2 dc in the ring, ch 2, *3 dc in the ring, ch 2, repeat from *, two times more, sl st to the top of the beg ch-2. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: sl st across the next 2 dc, sl st into the nxt ch-2 sp, ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same sp, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the nxt ch-2 sp, ch 1, repeat from * TWO times more, sl st to top of beg ch-2 made. (24 dc)
Rnd 3: sl st across the nxt 2 dc, sl st in to the nxt ch-2 sp, ch 2, 5 dc in the same sp, ch 1, 3 dc in the nxt ch-1 sp, ch 1, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the nxt ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in the nxt ch-1 sp, ch 1, 6 dc in the nxt ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in the nxt ch-1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the nxt ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in the nxt ch-1 sp, ch 1, sl st to the top of the beg ch-2. (32 sts)
Rnd 4: sl st across the nxt 2 dc, hdc in the nxt dc, dc in the nxt st, 2 tc in the nxt, sk the nxt ch-1 sp and dc, 10 tc in the nxt dc, sk the nxt dc/ch-1/sc, and sl st in the ch-1 sp between the 2 sc, sk the nxt sc/ch-1 sp /dc, 10 tc in the nxt dc, sk the nxt dc and ch-1 sp, 2 tc in the nxt dc, dc in the nxt st, hdc in the nxt st, sl sl in the nxt 2 sts, tie off, leaving a long tail to stitch it wherever you like!
